MEMBERSHIP in VCOC
All Virginia chapters are affiliated with the Virginia Council of Chapters (VCOC) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).   So all members of Virginia MOAA chapters are represented by VCOC.  People do not join the council directly, they join a local chapter.  The chapter affiliates with the council (and pays nominal dues per paying* member to the council once a year, based on chapter members as of 31 December).
* Free chapter memberships, whether as part of MOAA's Give Me Ten recruiting program or free for other reasons, are currently exempt from Council dues.

2010 DUES
are 80 cents for each regular (officer) member and 40 cents for each auxiliary (surviving spouse of officer) member.  This is a few cent increase from 2009.  Chapters pay dues to VCOC prior to March 1 each year.

Membership in national MOAA and local chapters is separate, with separate dues.   There are about 4,000 MOAA chapter members in Virginia and over 49,000 MOAA national members.

Each Virginia MOAA chapter designates a Chapter VCOC Representative (called a VCOC Rep), appointed by Chapter President (or in some cases elected by the chapter), with voting rights at the VCOC.  Council elections are the exception, when the Chapter President has the only vote.

Each Virginia chapter also designates a VCOC Legislative Representative (Legislative Rep) to participate in break-out sessions on legislative issues at VCOC quarterly meetings.

Other chapter members are welcome to attend VCOC meetings and events.  It is especially important for chapters to participate in the annual legislative events in Richmond and Washington DC.

VCOC elected officers are President, Vice President (VP), 2nd & 3rd VP, Secretary and Treasurer.  These officers serve 2 year terms beginning in the even numbered year (such as 2008-2009).  The VCOC President appoints other officers and committee chairpersons.

As with national MOAA, chapter membership is open to officers (active, retired, guard, former) including Warrant Officers who join as regular members and Widows/widows of officers who may join as auxiliary members.

All branches of service are welcome...
Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Membership in a Virginia chapter of MOAA affiliated with the VCOC gives one representation at the Virginia Council of Chapters.

VCOC participates in the National MOAA Give Me Ten program and assists chapters with chapter membership recruiting.  These issues are handled elsewhere in this website.
